Hiya Lee,

Of course, almost everything in that diagram is out of place for me. 🙅

But the brake light and fan switch are of particular interest. No USA spec Beetles had the fan in the air box until the 1971 production year. We only had the brake warning light/button in the top center of the dash.

So, Oz spec cars had the fans in 1970?

News to me!

That's not an Australian-spec dash. Aussie VWs did not have ignition switches on the steering column, and our indicator stalks were always on the left. Aussie 1970 Beetles did not have padded dashboards either.

I would guess that the picture is from a UK-published book.

Hi Mike,
I believe those fans were fitted on the 1976 beetle
or at least the plugs in the plastic dash..
We never had the telltale brake lamp either..
blinker arm was always on the LHS...
key switch on RHS....

Yes, Phil, it came from a UK manual....

cheers

they've just drawn the steering column around the wrong way 😂

once the self cancelling indicators and horn ring steering wheel started which was 60 if my memory serves pretty much world wide the indicator switch was on the left in vws
its a standard thing with alot of euro cars theyre still like it now

my ex had a beema then a volvo so i got good at washing the windscreen at people instead of flashing the highbeam at them

you would be amazed how often you get cut off driving a wolvo

Lee, the fan switch and brake warning light holes were in aus bugs starting from mid 71
they just had rubber bungs in them
