You want an 034, exactly the same as 009 but with vac advance.
Original part no:

Bosch: 0 231 170 034

VW: 043-905-205

Most of what is being sold as replacement svda's will be one of these.

Sometimes known as a Mexican distributor It was also used in the U.S. on some models.

Cip1 and others also sell.... BRUCK GERMANY VACUUM ADVANCE (SVDA) DISTRIBUTOR.

But I have heard they are German in name only and have been knocked out in China on Bruck's behalf.

Genuine Mexican Bosch is supposed to be the best in this case.

The local VW suppliers should have them but will probably call them an svda rather than an 034. Sometimes they come up 2nd hand on egay.

Regards,

Matt.

I kinda thought a s/h SVDA would be a long shot but I have seen them occasionally.

As a matter of double checking, would my 009 pertronix module fit the 034 SVDA.
I will check with Mick on Monday. Thanks!

Yes. Everything from an 009 will fit the 034.

Sometimes you see them 2nd hand on UK or US ebay cheap and if it's a private seller, postage isn't too bad. I got mine from the UK a few years ago.

Matt.

New question about the 034/SVDA

The VW part number is the same (043-905-205) but the one Iam looking at ends in an N (043-905-205N) Is it the same ? what does the N signify?

I had a look at the Pertronix site and the part no's. for the modules are different for the 009 and the SVDA distributors. I am not sure if they are interchangeable?

Don't know about difference in pertronix but with the compufire the svda one has a very small metal ring that acts as a spacer under the trigger rotor and the 009 one doesn't. Don't know why, as every other aspect of the two distributors are the same.

I have been trying to find out about that part No. with an N at the end, are you sure? No one seems to have come accross that suffix before. Where is this dissy now and does it say what country it was made in?

Regards,

Matt.

The N part no. was from Ebay US. 403-905-205N. Maybe a typo. But they have a double. vac adv. listed also that has the same part no. but ends in a C.

Well anyway, this is all about the flat spot with the 009/34 setup. It never used to bother me until a recent rebuild. Now it really annoying. I might try the main jet/throttle plate trick first before I splash out 200 bills for a SVDA. I just bought the Pertronix unit for the 009 and it seem a waste of money if I cant use it in the SVDA.

I just remembered the difference when it comes to electronic modules. On the 009 the module bolts straight onto the stationary plate where the points go. Svda points go on top of a second plate that slides (rotationally) over the top of the bottom plate when the arm from the vac can pushes/pulls it (thus altering timing).

The thickness of the top plate (a couple of mm) means the stationary part of the module will sit a bit higher in an svda and rub on the rotational part of module unless the rotational part is moved higher by spacing it with a ring a few mm thick. (compufire style)

With the pertronix style the problem caused by the few mm height difference would not be rubbing, it would be the alteration of the vertical alignment of the stationary and rotational parts resulting in poor or no triggering. It could also be fixed by spacing (raising) the rotational part by a measurement the same thickness as the breaker (points) plate. (Fibre washers may do the trick)

So, you could use your pertronix in an svda if you make up a spacer.

Regards,

Matt.
