Hi all,

Is it legal to tow an unregistered car in QLD?

I assume it would be safe if the brakes work, but is it legal?

Dont own a trailer and cant afford to put it on a truck.

Down here in SA most of the Service stations have a Car trailer, they are about $70 for 4 hours. Should be usefull to you (i'm sure the trailer franchise is up there too).

why dont you get a permit to drive the car, that will give you the legal right to have the car on the road, it will have CTP, then you will be able to tow it legally!

Depends if it's roadworthy or not.
I am pretty sure QLD law is the same as NSW for unregistered vehicles. Ring up and check.
If it would pass a safety inspection then you can get a permit to drive it unregistered which includes personal injury insurance then you're legal.
If it is not then grab a car trailer.
Flat towing is acceptable I think if there is a rigid link between the car doing the towing and the "towee" and that there are brake and indicator lights visible at the rear of the vehicle being towed.

I actually paid a tow company. Was 50 bucks, so was actually cheaper than a trailer and I never had to go get it.
Just gave address to pick up and my address to drop off. Easy

My last tow truck in Brissie (about 2 months ago) was $60 for a local one and $80 for an across town one (about 12 months ago). About the same price as hiring a trailer.
PM if you want the phone numbers.
