Has anyone on the forum had any success restoring Microbus Deluxe belt-line trim? I have a couple of Kombis that are in need of some refinishing and am unsure how best to restore the trim to its former glory.

Any suggestions welcome please.

Which trim do you mean? There were few different trims used, early bay's had the wide aluminium trim just below the window. A good polish should do it wonders unless it's dinted?
The later bay's had stainless steel trim lower down the sides. Again a good polish, but if the rubber is perished I'm not sure.

Andy,

Its the aluminium trim, just beneath the window that I am referring too. The Bus Depot have new ones for $415 and I have a source that can restore the original however am unsure of the cost of doing so. Mine have a few dents and the surface is generally dull having lost its anodised finish.
Best regards

Hiya Garry,

If the trim has lost its anodization you are faced with monthly polishing to keep the aluminum looking presentable.

I had my trim reanodized (extremely expensive - don't even think about it) but that was well before the trim repops appeared on the market. I'd go that way if I just had to have anodized trim.

If its aluminium, You can polish it with soapy steel wool
and water... preferably off the car.. lol
then spray it with clear good quality paint...

stainless steel trim is much better...
polishes up great and doesn't dent as easy..
