G'day All

I installed new gen. brushes yesterday, and now I have a noisy generator, to make sure I did take off the fan belt and it was the gen, reading the idiot book it says that it is the gen. bearings.

What I wanted to know is how hard is it to replace the bearings, and secondly if it is left for a month or so will anyhthing bad happen, because the car is still charging and runs fine.

Cheers

Hi

What sort of noise is it?

They are not that hard to change.

There isn't a rag or leaf in the fan, they can make a horrible sound like bearings.

hey
leaf above or some crap in it maybe worth a look first
if the sound wasn't there before you changed the brushes get a screwdriver or alike n as the motor is running get the tool n push down on the brushes n it may bed them in n the noise may magically disappear
i have done this trick several times over the years
but if no joy bearings maybe buggered..
also did you put the genny back on as you found it nice n square etc to its mount??
see how you go
cheers h

The noise comes on with higher revs, and is like a wrring noise, thats the best I can describe it, it's kind of like have a tuned exhaust when driving with a droaning type noise, but i'll check for a leaf and try bedding the brushes in...

Hi
If the generator bearings are dry and noisy...
they can and probably will seize at some point ...
which will stop the fan and stop You driving....

take the belt off and spin the generator and see if it is the bearings...
maybe the New brushes bedding in....??
