Hi everyone,

I am looking at putting a set of twin solex 34's on my 1600 twin port. But i am buying them part by part as i am getting them second hand and can't find someone with the whole kit. So i have bourght the carbys but now i need the manifolds and linkages i have found the manifolds but hav'nt bourght them yet. But i was woundering how hard the linkages are to find and what sort of power they will give.

The 1600 model type 3s had twin Solex carburetors..
but they were designed for those flat engines and the carbies weren't identical.... LH & RH weren't the same...

You would need to see someone with twin brosol carbies which are similar to solexes...

HP?? 5 - 10 HP..
Now You will need an extractor exhaust system for another 5 to 10 HP...
the engine will breathe much better with twin carbies..
and when tuned perfectly You can getter better MPG...
[kms per litre lol ]

cheers

I was doing google search for "twin solex pict" and this was the first link
this interest me so i thought i'd revive this

i think he meant 34 pict 3 as said in the header/ title/ thing
aside from linkage problem and the manifold problem. how would twin 34 pict 3 perform on a 1600 tp (hypothetically speaking.. if jetted right too)

I'm pretty sure it wouln't be so hard to fabricate an adaptor plate from 2 pair flanges one to fir on a type 3 manifold and one to match the pict linked together by a steel tube. maybe have a steel rod that goes to exhaust manifold as a pre heat too.
so pretty much have a carby sitting on top of adaptor which is sitting on top of t3 inlet manifold

Twin 34 PICT? Any linkages for this would be home made would it not? so probably not easy to find.

As Lee mentioned factory dual carbs were put on the type 3 "flat" motor, these were 32PDSIT and were complete with linkages, inlet manifolds etc. These do not easily adapt to a beetle (there was a post on AVD recently for this if you search). hey do also add a couple of HP if you find a type 3 dissy also.
The manifolds bolt straight to any twin port "type 1" motor, and the 34 PICT will bolt to that manifold also.

Don't confuse these with the 34PDSIT, this was the dual carbs used on the type 4 motor, the carbies are very similar to the type 3 ones but have a bigger throat (26 instead of 24mm), different jetting and a central idle system.

Both these systems had pre heated air fed to the air cleaner controlled by a thermostat instead of the heated manifold in a beetle.

the thread was probably on a set i made up years ago
wasnt a huge job just fiddly

main problems i see if you were trying to install twin 34pict3 is one room- theyre alot chunkyier than PDSITs and would even have trouble clearing a 36hp style shroud letalone the body in a bug

and a linkage setup.
they have a similar flange to PDSITs but the throttles are 90degrees out so the linkages would be on the sides instead if the fronts

yea it would be home made linkage
and i'm really talking about 34 pict 3 out of a 1600 (even if it seems stupid)
hypothetically speaking if i was able to do it /*i'm not full of myself i'm just curious*/
would it be as good as twin 32 pdsit ? or even weber 34 ICT?

Dylan I may have a set of carbs & manifolds from a type 3,is it twin port or single port? We ran a pair of strombergs off a holden with venturi reducers and adjustable main jets on my single port 1500 quite successfully, the linkages were all hand made.
