I have had a few problems with vapour smells

Anyway - i have replaced all the main hoses and got rid of the minor ones as shown in the attachments.

My problem now is i get a hissing noise when i take the petrol cap off

Obviously it was swiss cheese before and didnt need any help

Do i need a "vemted" cap?
Is there another pipe i have to run??
Is it ok the way it is??

Does some one have a picture of a 73 or 74L bug (pre canister)and how that is piped up??

Hi Barry,

you shouldnt need a vented cap

VW kept chopping and changing the superbug breather system
71-72 had a whole heap of vent hoses like the pics above
there were 3 4mm hoses coming off the tank and a crazy plastic junction tube thing that they all connected to under the windscreen

nearly all these ones seem to stink

73-74 they got rid of all that but brought it back in 75 for the charcoal canister system

i'd set up like a 73-74 Lbug
the only hose coming off the tank is the 12mm-ish one from the filler neck to the top corner near the hood hinge

in this is a T piece which sends a 4mm breather hose down under the car

ive never come across one of these that stink of fuel

i cant find any pics of DUB74L that show it but my blue bug is the same

ill get a better pic when im over there later

hehe dont laugh thats the reason i ended up with that bug real cheap

the girl that used to own it drove to towoomba and back to casino each weekend till that happened one night and really scared the crap out of her

when she got home she bought a new car and the poor bug was left to die in the back yard

here you go

the big hose off the filler and into the top corner is the same on all Super tanks
and the small line Tee'd into it just runs across under the windscreen and down under the tank through the same hole as the brake fluid resivoir pipes

Hi Barry

I agree with Joel, set it up like the 73/74 models. You only need one small hose to let the tank breath. Make sure all your hoses are clear as well because insects etc can block the hoses.
