i am just trying to find out if the auto choke on a 30 PICT 2 only operates the butterfly or if it also dumps extra fuel in. The main reason i am asking because when the choke is on in my bug it is over fueling to the point that it stalls.

it only operates and restricts the airflow by closing the butterfly
and opening gradually as the choke heater element operates
the choke operated the butterfly and the accellerator arm cam.
as the engine warms and the coil in the choke expands the cam backs off with the butterfly and eventually to nothing where the carby runs normally. to back off the choke loosen the 3 screws and rotate it clockwise slightly.

thats what i was hoping to here, so if i remove the butterfly flap the choke will still operate and adjust the idle but not choke ( no pun intended ) it of air.

try getting it adjusted first, theres very little to be gained from removing a choke butterfly, are you sure this isnt a by product of another issue? the choke shouldnt be hindering an engine if everything is set up right,
