Is anyone a member of these VW clubs?

* Classic and Vintage VW Club NSW
* VW Historical Society NSW
* Shoalhaven VW Club NSW
* Hastings District VW Club NSW
* Manx Dune Buggy Club of QLD

Do they produce a club magazine or newsletter? If not, why not?

Phil,

Hastings District VW Owners Club Inc, has been formally re-named to, Mid North Coast Dub Club. I'm currently vice president and no, we don't have a club magazine or news letter.

Reasons? The club nearly died a couple of years ago and is currently just hanging on. The name change has been an attempt at clarity and rejuvenation. As a result we are low in members and finances, as well as the usual "time poor"

We have just recently (unofficially) affiliated ourselves to a forum style website,

http://portvwforum.freeforums.org

We hope to disseminate club news through there.(and hopefully do some recruiting too!!)

Regards,

Matt.

Hi Matt, thanks for letting me know. I will get our mailing list updated - is your club's address still PO Box 1259 Port Macquarie?

The reason I ask is that I am the editor of the Club Veedub Sydney magazine, Zeitschrift. We have good reciprocal arrangement with most of the clubs around Australia whereby we send them our magazine, and they send us theirs every month. They are all available for perusal at our monthly meetings, and our members are always interested to see magazines from the big interstate clubs.

I am trying to find out the story with the smaller clubs above. We are currently sending them magazines, but we don't get anything back. In your case we are happy to keep sending to the MNCDC now we know what's happening, but I dunno about the others yet. If they have folded, then of course they can be discontinued. I am not sure what to do about small but financially well-off clubs like the Classic and Vintage Club who get our magazine as a courtesy, but don't produce one of their own and hence don't reciprocate in any way. Maybe we should charge them the standard membership fee?

We are not trying to be cheap, but printing, envelopes and postage all cost money. We also put our magazine on line for anyone to look at - see http://vwwatercooled.com/zeitschrift.html

What do other, newsletter-producing clubs do in this situation? Also, if your VW club doesn't get a copy of Zeitschrift, please let me know.

Phil,

Club address is still the same, PO Box 1259 Port Macquarie NSW 2444.

What usually happens is, club secretary collects the mail and your mag gets pulled out during club meeting (when they get around to occurring) at the point when correspondence is discussed and no one really gets a chance to have a good look at it.

I imagine the scenario is similar with other small clubs especially ones small enough to have difficulties getting together regularly.

Can we post a link (as a sticky) to your online version on our site? Do you want me to send a formal request by e-mail so you can minute it at your club meeting? (will also include a formal notification of our club name change, which should already have happened, sorry for the bad manners)

Regards,

Matt.

Nah, no formal letter is necessary, we are not a government department! Just send Bob Hickman (our secretary - hicko@iinet.net.au) a note explaiining the situation and he will change our database.

Yes you are welcome to post any link to the Zeitschrift page, or to our main page at http://www.clubvw.org.au/, as you wish.

I guess the current financial situation (recession?) is affecting small clubs as much as any other business. No one likes to see them go under.

Phil

I am the Treasurer of the Mid North Coast Dub Club, and often borrow the Zeitschrift frotn the sectretary to read after the meeting, and give it back at the next meeting, although as Matt said, we havn't had many meetings fro a while - our president having a baby didn't help. Our local forum will help a lot I think. Must say, Zeitschrift is a top read. Well done.

Hi Jeff, thanks for saying so - we have a lot of keen contributors. Yes, while we will never have the glossy pages and colour photos that Craig's professional VWMA has, I don't think it's a bad effort for a VW owner's club. Individuals are welcome to subscribe - only $45 per year for 12 issues.

Thanks to the Mid North Coast Dub Club guys for your feedback - Club Veedub in Sydney might be able to assist you. Steve C will have a word to you at the Sawtell show shortly.

But what about the other clubs I mentioned above? Doesn't anyone here belong to Classic & Vintage, or Historical, or Shoalhaven, or QLD Manx Buggy?

Phil,
I am a member of the Shoalhaven Volkswagen VW club, we don't produce a magazine, we only have a few members, we keep in contact by Email and at our monthly club meeting at the Berry Pub 1st Tuesday of every month, Your club magazine is very much appreciated at our meetings and does the rounds of the table a few times.

We have been a bit quiet over the winter months and haven't had any runs,

However, we are getting back into it for August and are having a run on the 9th, up to Stanwell Tops for lunch, we meet at Berry Apex Park at 9.30am if anyone wants to join us.

Thanks
Dave

Hi Phil,
Iam a member of VWHS, we are pretty much the same as the Shoalhaven Club these days. Just a few members that comunicate by emails and get together from time to time for & meeting/ BBQ at a venue that is randomly picked usually at an organized event that we are all going to. We dont produce a magazine is it is not warranted but at our get togethers your club mag is passed around. We would be happy to keep receiving it if possible but if it is not cost effective we understand also.
Regards.

See phil, your magazine is very popular and widely read. This must help make the hard work seem even more satisfying.
