hi all, just wandering where the best spot would be to put the sender for my oil temp guage in my kombi? Can i put it where the pressure sender is with a t piece?I dont want to drill the block for it if possible, any sugestions?

believe that you can get a tee piece that will fit both your pressure sender and temp sender... but i would put it somewhere that you get a good flow across it. then you will get more accurate temp readings. if its at the end of a fitting then you will get a time lag between real temp and measured temps. i think the sump plate is a common place for them, but depends how long it is.
see.... air and water do mix 😉

Hi
The T piece in the oil pressure sender is not a good spot. The best place if you don't have a universal case with the Type 3 blank off is to get the oil pressure relief valve spring plug drilled and tapped, the one near the flywheel, not the oil pump end.
Steve
thanks for the ideas fellas, i will check to see if it has the type 3 bolt on piece, its a new unleaded engine, i dont like the sump idea as i want to be able to go off road as well and it may tear out, cheers

sump senders dont get an accurate reading anyway
as steve said best spot is type3 block off if theres one there
failing that the pulley end reliefe valve plug works ok
Mine was in the relief valve
Worked fine
Futue te ipsum!!!
Steve,Joel, if you don't have the t3 block off plate could you drill and tap that area for a sender?
yeah sure can,
just a job easier done while the blocks apart you dont end up with a sump full of shavings but it could be done with it together if you were keen enough

Yeah ,I was thinking about this. Covering the drill with plastic, putting down a tray and drilling it with the oil still in. The idea being that the oil flushes out the shavings.Going to be messy! Then tap it and run a bit more oil through the system to flush out the tapping junk. What ya think?
once the holes drilled your fine
just keep the tap well greased and it will grab any shavings
an easier alternative is just use a releife valve plug fitting like barry
So.... Joel, item below no good???
i was gonna get one of those and check the gauge when the L Bug clocks are.... Ideas.
I'm a thread hijacker tonight... sorry guys 🙂
that dash looks awfully familiar 😂
yea dipstick senders work well
you just have to have the compatible gauge to go with them
Yes, I searched for dash in google images, and I only got Left hanf drive photos, so went to SBO and searched dash. Then realised after I posted, that you wrote the thread. Funny stuff. Sorry for stealing the image... :P
So, you approve? Good 🙂 its one of the better ones I have seen, (either that of order the one from CB performance.... but its a bit more...) just going to keep the real dipstick in the tool bag for oil measuring 🙂
joel, i like the way its set up in your pic where the pressure relief valve spot is, do you know where i can get the sender unit from to fit that spot?Does it need to be a special setup for that area?cheers

Hi
If you take your relief valve plug to a nut & bolt shop they will give you a nut that the plug can screw into, then get someone with a lathe to put the nut and plug in a lathe and bore plug out to accept the sender.
On my sons daily I use the plug near the flywheel.
Steve
M18x1.5 if memory serves
if u went to a hydraulic/hose fittings shop like Enzed im sure u could get a male/female adapter with M18x1.5 to 1/8" NPT threads that would bolt straight in and take the sender
thanks mate
