I've always thought that a Fender is an electric guitar.

Yea, getting a bit tired of fenders and wings, last time I heard here in Australia they are guards and bumpers, seems the dreaded USofA virus is creeping in again.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

Ahhhh you've got to love dealers and their over-inflated prices and ideas.

Hi

I think I detected an accent, fush & chups anyone.

It looks clean but I don't think they will get the price, there is another yard at Beverly Hills that sells exotic cars, they had a 1500 Beetle with a silly price on it, nice metallic blue paint but with rust bubbles coming up everywhere.

Not just the USA though.
Coming from the UK, it took a while to get used to the whole "guards" thing!
I used to call them wings too...

I totally confused someone when i said i was going to the garage to use the cashpoint (going to the servo to use the atm)

Plus your 'manhole' is a thing in the roof...whereas our 'manhole' is a cover to access drains etc

I've gotten a bit more used to it now though, but it was a spin out trying to remember all these little differences when we first got here!

Hi

And a motor is a car in the UK, we all speak English, just differently.

My wife is Scottish but came out when she was a kid.

She calls a vacuum cleaner a Hoover, a street directory a map book and many others that I cant remember now.

Yeah thats very true!
It's not a major issue, but i was quite surprised at something i asked my 6 year old sons teacher when he first started school here...

Where we lived in the UK the accent was VERY broad...for example words like HANDSOME would be pronounced ANSOM etc but in schools the word HANDSOME would still be taught with the "H" at the beginning (ie correctly!!)...it was just the regional accent that changed it, which was fair enough.

Since going to school here our son now has a great Aussie twang on lots of his words! Its really funny to hear!
But i was a bit surprised when we went to a parent teacher evening thing and i asked how they taught the word "COMPUTER" and was amazed that it's actually taught as COM-PUH-DAH (with no T sound in it)
Even though the aussie accent drops the T sound and syas it as more of a D sound, i would have thought it should still be taught using the correct phonetics?...even if nobody said it that way..

Not being a whinge here, as it's no biggie...but it did surprise me i admit!

haha! i drive past there everyday... I parked up once and went in to check it out and actually laughed out loud when the showroom bloke said it was "a 76 classic" and $30000!

I told him he can have my even more classic '54 for $50000 and he could sell it for $60000!

Must be something "south of the border" as it's nothing like that in the NSW English language!!
