I'm a bit confused. Does that mean that you would have a red blinker? If so, then your blinker will be illegal, as they must be orange.

As to doing it, it would be a matter of rearranging the wiring, which is not complicated.

Don't forget that tail lights have 5 Watt globes and blinkers have 17 or 21 Watt globes, which means that the heat output needs to be considered, as it could melt the tail light if an inappropriate globe is put in a place for which it was not designed.

I'm also well confused!
Which bit are you trying to use for the blinker...as if you just switch the blinker with the park / brake light then it's going to be flashing red. Is that what you wanted?
Or are you trying to get the bottom clear bit to flash?

Either way i'll be honest and have to ask "why?" lol 😂

yeah doesn't sound that confusing.. switch blinker to bottom.. Orange globe in the bottom housing. The end.

Oh!!! I get it at last.

Coloured globes for white tail lights will not fit. The stem is smaller to stop them from being fitted in the wrong places. You would need to change the fitting and then Hey! Presto!, job done.

I think that would look good. Do it.

lol

To be fair though it only became non-confusing after the 3rd time he posted! 🙂

Yeah, easily done really..just swap the wires around a bit.

Good luck!

What are you going to use for a reverse light? Why try to confuse everyone on the road,People know the top lamp on a beetle is the indicator.There are enough boofheads out there with wanker lights blinding us and poorly wired lights that flash the wrong light or do not work at all.

that's a good point grumble.

As I understand the rules. reversing lights are a bit like windscreen washers. If the are fitted, then they must work for the car to be road legal.

I think that you will need to fit a reversing lamp somewhere.

Abp66 wrote:... yes the clear bit will flash. the reason is because i like the look. i havn't explained it very well basically i just want it to work correctly.

TOP = RED
MIDDLE = RED
BOTTOM = CLEAR BUT FLASH ORANGE
I never thought of that idea....

and i'm a tail lamp junkie.... lol

You can buy LEDs - white or amber or red on ebay
prices are coming down at last...

For reversing lamps , buy a pair of clear rectangular lamps
and sit them under the bumper....

but 1968 beetles didn't have reversing lamps...
I fitted them to My beetle...

I had a 1970 type 3 back in the 70s and although they came with clear bits at the bottom...
NO Lights or wires were in there... I had to fit them Myself..

cheers

PS: Most mechanics or cops wouldn't know if cars came with reversing lamps back in the 60s anyway... IMHO LEE
