was taking a few friends for a cruise in the notch and being in tassie it was freezing so i did the gentlemanly thing and turned on the heater. The old girl got warm and i was pretty proud of myself. Unfortunately one of my friends needed me to pull over due to the over powering petrol/exhaust fumes in the beast. Says he felt high as a kite. I dont get it I never smell petrol. Ahh the joys of vw ownership. Just thought id share one of lifes little pleasures with you all

Yep!

I got the heaters working on ours only to discover that after a few k's the whole car started to fill with oily exhaust fumes..
Disconnected and blocked up the vents as our 2 kids ride in it daily...

Will just have to freeze 🙂

That smell is part of owning a volksy. I love it. My heaters are on pretty much every time i drive it. Plus they keep the heater channels dry which is always a good thing

Hmm....depends what smell you mean though!
I've had Beetles with working heaters that gave off a "VW smell"...but exhaust fumes are a different kettle of fish!

I must say, I have always loved the heaters in my bugs. Sometimes they do smell a little, but, like Dave, I do rather like it. I also reckon it dries out the heater channels, so that has to be a bonus.

The only thing I have found is that you shouldn't drive through deep water with the heaters on - water in the heat exchangers turns to steam REAL quick, and not only fogs up your windscreen instantly, but cooks your anle.

HAHA yeah jeff i've done the steam trick as well. A year or 2 back coming back from nambuca last year when it was raining really bad i drove through a deep puddle in my low bug on the way out of a servo. It isn't fun having to drive with you head out the window in heavy rain lol
