you have opened a can of worms asking that question on here lol😂
welcome to the nut house.

I like ovals mines a 56 but I'm bias.

You may want to look at a Super Bug for your first bug..

Hi T1 time. I'm new to the VW world too. I guess the easiest way to answer your question is to go with the shape you like best. Some of us like the newer super bug style, some of us like the older 50s and 60s bugs. There are so many pics on this site so you can browse around and find what style suits your tastes and then look for a similar model.

Let me know if.......sorry................when....you want to volksrod it : )

Hi welcome aboard the VW info site. Like women, cars are a personal taste. Just browse the site pick the style/type you like, then post up a pic and ask people to look out for one. Lots of people will help a person who asks for assistance. Good Luck and I hope you find the one you want.

I'd say after 68 is a good bet for someone new to VW's.
From what i've seen so far, parts are probably going to be more accessable and more reasonably priced than pre-67.

Are you aware of the main differences between the years / models? If not it's worth studying a bit to find what you really want.
Originally we wanted a pre-67 (ie sloping headlights / longer bonnet / smaller tail-lights and so on...) but found a great 68 and went for it...only to find that we weren't happy with the upright headlight model and ended up trading it 2 months down the line for the model we really wanted all along.

This forum is great for advice should you need any help along the way.
Good luck!

Just wanted to say welcome and its good to see a young fella (I assume) that is honest and not trying to live above his means. A lot of people (old and young) are dreamers and for me, this is annoying. So go and give your folks a pat on the back from me, as they have brought you up well.

Sorry to all others for the little fatherly chat, but when I read the above quote I had the impulse to say what I was thinking.

Good luck with the car hunt, Kev

P.S. I have a 61 Beetle and I also like the earlier versions.
I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

i have a 71 s bug its my baby, which i was lucky enough to inherit .
I'm also a novice with little money as well so parts take time that and being in Adelaide its been hard so far to find people that know where the good mechanics and part retailers are that and people on here give some good advice its great people on here are fantastic
but in saying that i being a novice the boyfriend and i haven't had to much trouble pulling it a part and figuring out whats what though the seats are a pain..... that took half a day any way what im saying is you could either save and buy one thats already been restored or you can find one thats alright and restore it yourself but that takes time and money and lots of research as im finding out myself sooo weigh up the pros and cons of each option and then look at whats best for you and your budget
cheers and good luck i know my beetle brings me joy but sadness to see it sit there while i save for parts
good luck and hope to hear what you decide to do

P.s i found a dealer a few weeks ago that was selling a white beetle for 6,000 its floors where rusted and the interior was not the greatest but on the whole still nice any one no who bought it?
