After having purchased a 69 Beetle for my daughter, I got to wondering how I can identify the motor in it. The rego papers say that it is 1584cc. It has what I can identify as a Twin Port manifold, a brand new PICT 31 carbie, a generator and that is about it. Can the engine size be 'read' from the engine number? I know that different barrels and heads can be fitted and these sometimes mess up identification..but I was just wondering if there is an accepted way of working out what sort of donk it is that provides the motive power for these beasties. The engine number is AR077605 if that is any help.
