No worries, my kit was developed for 'overkill' performance, such as Subaru WRX transplants, and of course for legal road use in Australia.sander288 wrote:Cheers glen, I actually came round for a look a few months back, my problem is just the wrong car I've got a K&L car,
the kit to be honest is a little overkill for what I want, i just need a kit that doesn't extend the front vehicle track, and that I can change to 5x130 but what I like about the airkewld kit is if need I can turn them back to 5x205 or what ever I like if I change wheels...

The hubs of pretty much all these disc kits, even VWCOOL's I beleive, are made from an aluminium alloy 356 or 6061 hardened to T6. So they are legal. no different to a lot of Porsche hubs really. Mick58 just had some alloy hubs made for his subie powered bug. 😉vorsprungdurchtechnique wrote:I was just about to order a Bad disc kit also but someone advised they may be illegal due to part of the brake being aluminium. Would anyone know about that? Seems weird and not sure if it's true. Also, I was planning on ordering their 4" narrowed beam too but the same person told me these are illegal as well! Have I just come across a kill joy or is this guy speaking some truth? My fire has been well and truely pissed on!

no my hubs (VWCOOL) are NOT alloy as my engineer consultant said 'no-go' without a lot of (expensive) paperwork. Mine are super-duper steelpsimitar wrote:The hubs of pretty much all these disc kits, even VWCOOL's I beleive, are made from an aluminium alloy 356 or 6061 hardened to T6. I shoulda guessed from looking at them. My apologies, was late at nite when I replied. Yours would need to be steel as I'm not sure ali would have the strength necessary to stop the studs ripping through the ali.VWCOOL wrote:no my hubs (VWCOOL) are NOT alloy as my engineer consultant said 'no-go' without a lot of (expensive) paperwork. That would be news to me. Many cars including the Porsche use aluminum hubs. Only the design has be changed up a lil bit. Also, the rotors are steel just like any other car. Hydraulics, just the same. As long as they are DOT approved here in the states, they are A OK. So I would be really interested in why Our brakes would be illegal.vorsprungdurchtechnique wrote:I was just about to order a Bad disc kit also but someone advised they may be illegal due to part of the brake being aluminium. Aluminium hubs are fine over here, just depends on the engineer you talk too. It has to be the right type of alloy like 6061 or 356 in the UK tempered to T6 grade. I beleive you guys at Airkewld use alloy for the wheel mounting flange or is that steel? Pretty much all of the wide 5 disc kits use sintered steel rotors but CSP, from Germany use cast iron. Possibly Wilwood items. So all up your kit should be fine, it just depends on the engineer looking at it.Airkewld 2010 wrote:That would be news to me. No narrowed beams in the world are illegal. Up to 4" beams still have shock towers and no mods are needed to install it. If you go with a beam with out towers, that is what the MOT in the UK would frown upon. As far as OZ, I am not sure but more than likely, No shocks, menas no legal.
