Engine Build wont rotate

Hey guys

Short motor assembled, standard crank and rods, scat cam and lifters and alloy timing gear.

Assemble the half and everything turns freely, bolt the two halfs together and it turns freely but will only rotate 90 degrees, it is hitting something.

Whats in there that it can hit and do this.

Lots of possibilities, cam gear too tight or poor quality, clearance issues, have a look.

Found the problem

Its the new Schadeck oil pump I got from classic vw

I put on a scat cam and gear and this oil pump is hitting the timing gear bolts. On the back of the Oil pump you have the alloy that holds the drive gear, then beside that there is another lump beside it that holds the idler gear shaft and thats where the bolts are hitting.

What Oil pump is it supposed to be.

Cool, it'll be the bolts need to be 1/2 head. You can shave the head down with a grinder. Only thin anti-vibration washer used with loctite.

Check you have the right oil pump and all of the above 🙂

Had to get a new oil pump, it was a dished gear oil pump, I new that but just shortened the drive and took a bit of the alloy housing, kept doing that until it had 20 thou clearance. What I didnt check was the idler gear part of the housing, didnt shorten that thus hitting the bolts. Went a got a 3 bolt pump, went to put that on and found the bolts holes are two small, drive another 1 hr and get the 3 bolt pump with the big holes.

At 8 this morning I started with a short motor and was going to put the barrels on and then the heads, now after 10 hours of work I am back to a short motor and only fitted the barrels.

What a great frikken day hey.

Ohh
I should add as well, the 4 studs for the oil pump are too short now lol, so have to fix that, so after 10 hours Im actually further behind, anyone want me to help em with their VW engine
