Gday everyone,

I'm considering utting a sound system in my 67 beetle, the only problem is it being 6v. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to go about the issue wihout a 12v conversion. Are there 6-12v inverters? if so where from?

Cheers.

HI

You are going to run into problems here..
the VW 6 volts system doesn't really have enough power to operate a powerful 12 volt CD player...

a portable Cd - MP3 player will have to do....

the VW 6v generator only has a very small output....

That was going to be my next question, the 12v battery to run the stereo, would this option be enough to power a higher output stereo?

I do have a 12v battery in stock..... hmm 😂

I think this is about the best solution so far for 6V sounds, a bit spendy though...

A 6V, 600W ampllifier which draws about the same current as one headlight bulb!

I took the plunge and got one; haven't installed it yet but preliminary tests sound promising. Running just off the 6V battery, the output is more than enough. Wayne has been a really good guy to deal with and knows his onions.

Planning to run two 6" three ways in kick panels up front and an 8" suitcase sub in the back with an iPod docked in the ashtray :-)

so no head unit, just the ipod docked through the speakers and sub?
sounds like a good and fairly simple option. Are the 6v amps easy to come by?

Wayne's 6V amp. includes a 12V output which may be used to power a head unit/CD player etc...

I don't use a head unit as I've got nowhere to put it, so I just run the iPod through the amplifier directly.

As for getting hold of one, the details are in the link I posted above; send Wayne some money and he'll make you one and send it to you; they're made to order.

If you need any specific details, I suggest contacting Wayne directly. He's been very good at answering my queries.

Does anyone know whether the 12v battery idea is good for a higher output system?
I've read about them and it all seems pretty simple but no one tells how big their system is, is it a sustainable option?
