i have tried everything to get my 2ltr 44 idf engine to idle less then 1300 rpm to no success... i have noticed my eccelerator jets are squirting fuel on idle which im sure is my problem. but there is no adjustment on the fuel pumps... we are 90% sure the throttle shafts are closing all the way aswell...
another problem i had was my fuel reg gauge would never read more then 2psi with my 4.5 psi pump and holley reg, even when the adjusting screw was wound all the way in.... so hay, i thought i might of had a faulty reg gauge and i was pumping wat too much fuel in , so today i went out and wound it in and out while watching the eccelerator jets, but nope, fuel was still squirting in...
soo, im thinking somethings wrong that a specialist will have to have a look at 4 me...
hope i have gave enough info to get some good feedback.
thanks...
you have a vacuum leak or air leak, the extra fuel won't make it run faster its getting too much air.
This is a classic "telegraphic diagnosis" situation! Have you checked the float levels - accurately?

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Wouldnt this mean you have stuffed needle and seats???
Does fuel come out as soon as you shut down??
Futue te ipsum!!!
Fuel pressure, float level or needle and seats. But also need to confirm throttle plates are seated correctly on the shaft and your dissy is returning the advance all the way consistantly.

greg, we checked float levels and adjusted them at min 11mm to 32mm max...
brian, no airleeks , ive had this once before, so i know what to look for here, so nope....
matt, throttle plates, mmmm, ok ill get checked... dizzy is new oo9...so maybee..
bizarre, ill check this arvo...
One thing to check - easy - is the fuel tank breather. On a hot day fuel and air in the tank can expand, and push fuel into the carbs if the tank isn't 'breathing'.

i have the stock breather and also a 8mm line aswell off the neck.. also i have put in 8mm hard lines all the way through... ill take the cap off while running and check,,,
thanks greg...
Hi, Are the carbs old, maybe the check valves that are in the pump circuit are stuck and are allowing the fuel to be drawn through the pump circuit, i have a pair of 44 idf's and always set the butterflies on the bench using a .006" feeler gauge to set the gap between the carb body and butterfly, you ajust this gap using the idle screw to be exactly the same on both carbs and on start up they will run good enough untill you can balance them
thanks vw60, i took them to a carby specialist on the car for him to have a look, and he thinks its something in the fuel pump, so ill be taking them off and dropping them off monday morn for him to fix. ill drop off both just to double check throttle shafts are all good aswell...
thanks dude....
