I'd like to pick your combined genius and find out why the headlights on my daughter's Bug glow brighter when the engine revs faster and conversely dulls when it comes back to idle.
I had trouble getting the car to start and I had the generator output checked by a mechanic who placed the Ohmeter on the genny and the battery as it was running and he informed me that it was charging about 13V +. I replaced the battery and it now starts fine...I was thinking that the Regulator might need adjusting or replacing....any suggestions at all as I need this little beast in top running order for my daughter to use as her first car in which to get her driver's licence. She gets her "L"s next week and I'd hate to see her get frustrated because the car isn't running as it should.
All suggestions/ comments gratefully accepted

Cheers

My old beetle did that a little, but i didn't worry about it too much. How bad is it? Is it a small change or quite significant?

Best of luck with her getting her licence. My first beetle was a Convertible Superbug, it was so much fun! Just make sure she's a careful driver with all that fibreglass on the beetle.

Thanks Ash,
It is not a really big change...just that it is noticeable...but being the sort of bloke that wants his daughter's first car to run like a clock..I tend to pick up on the smallest of things that I think might cause a problem a bit later down the track..you know how dads are?...nothing is ever good enough for his baby girl...lol (actually she is my youngest of 3 girls..no wonder my hair is turning grey).
If you didn't have any problems then I suppose she won't either.
Many years ago a young lady in Albury NSW left her car with me for a month whilst she went holidaying in Europe...for a fun filled month in summer I had the pleasure of driving around in her VW 'WonderBug"..it was a convertible and it had a "Rolls Royce" or Austin A7 front grill etc on it. It had manufacturer's compliance plate affixed to it as it was a professional conversion and it drew lots of comments and looks everywhere I drove it. It was a shame I had to give it back to her when she returned...lol. Funny thing is...I've never seen another like it anywhere since.

yeah i had that same issue, my 68 has the wire from the regulator go straight to the headlights before anything else 😉.

You may also find that when you have the lights in high beam you can get SUPER high beam (by pulling the indicator like you would normally flash a car).. i could. Was always funny driving down a road forgetting they were on and some guy flashing you and you can flash him back haha.
