THEY NEVER MADE A WATER TRAP FOR 4 LOUVRE ENGINE LIDS

Only the 2 louvre vent lids had the water traps
which are now very hard to find....

the only accessory I have seen to stop water entering the vents is a perspex [plastic] piece which sits on top of the vents..
these are very common in the UK...

Not sure whether they are sold in Australia...

OK, thanks. There is always something to learn about your Veedub! I remember the perspex ones however reckon I would rather put up with a little water splashing over the motor, as I am not keen on the look of the perspex style. Seem to remember they made a matching perspex cover for the air vent in the bonnet.

theyre hard to find cos they were only factory fitted to 1970/early 71 bugs with signle ports

i have a dealership bulletin somewhere, they removed them from twinport bugs in 71 due to overheating issues, they cut off to much air flow

if your having trouble with your engine running when its wet then its time for new leads or cap

Yes,
I've never liked the engine perspex covers but I must admit I do however have a bonnet vent one... lol
still in the packet.... lol

You could make a water shield out of metal - just going from one side to the other... with the top going inwards..
so the air can still get in and out OK...
but I've never had any problems even with My engine lid open 60mm at the top....
but then We don't get downpours like they get in Melbourne & Sydney..

I have one from a cabrio that has been sandblasted and powdercoated but it had some rust in it before I did that to it. It also doesn't have the tubes that come out of the tray and down to the bottom of the engine lid but you can just get some rubber grommets and hose to do the job or look on CIP1 website as I think they have them.
