It seems that my indicator / wiper switch mechanism is cactus, ie stuffed, the indicators were working ok although they have never self cancelled since I have had the car, a while ago the wipers stoped working, (because of the switch or the motor I'm not sure as they have never self parked and I had to give the wiper blade a push start to get it going so maybe the motor burned out if I didn't notice that the switch was on) Then the high beam stoped working, I could feel the difference in the mechanism for this operation. I have another mechanism that seems to be the same but installing that changed nothing. The part number on the back of the indicator stalk is 8199 SAE 08 71 the number on the back of the replacement is SWF HLS 71 SAE 08 71 so they have different part numbers.
My questions are,
1. Are they available new (ok, it is Sunday, I can ring around tomorrow )
2. If not does anyone out there have a replacement (that works) that they wish to sell ($?)
3. Is there a mechanism from another type of car that will fit (I seem to recall a post mentioning a Corolla part being used to replace a VW one)
4. Any other suggestions
Thanks
Don

car forums. where a lot of peoples good intentions end up taking a good old car off the road forever never ever to see the road again. 🥲
what model car Don??
beetle??
its just an odd shaped spring in the centre of the indicator arm
to switch it off... self cancel..
maybe the arm plus high beam dipping is all related to the centre of the blinker arm..????
if the blinker arm is loose.. You will get all those problems...
as all the switch contacts are located there..

PS: I wouldn't go trying to fit corolla bits onto a beetle..
anything can be done, but its NEVER easy... Lee
PS: Take it to Ian to fix He's a VW Mechanic... 😂😂😂😂
unless an auto electrician know the VW system... it will cost You heaps of money while he finds out... Lee

Probably started life as a '64 beetle, buggered if I know what it is now except that it has had about 14" taken out of the floor pan and a Kalita body droped on it.❓

Try convincing him of that, spends all day on the net while Rose lays rubber all up and down the drive.🙅

Don, if its got the wiper switch as a part of it as well then its a 72 onwards column your dealing with
in an open buggy its probably got wet more than once so its most likely dirty contacts and lack of grease causing the dramas
i seem to break indicator switches on a weekly basis
there about $90 each for repoops
i did manage to score genuine german SWF wiper and indicator switches a few months ago and theyre much more robust than these bodgy repoop ones
dunno where you would get them if you still can though, i had a lucky find when someone cleaned out there garage
