Hi Guys
What valve stem seals do VW 1300 AND 1600 have. Is it the 4 black o-ring seals for the inlets and 4 larger square brown ones for the exhaust. The gasket set I have doesnt have 8 little seals like you normally see for valve stem seals.

Thanks Trev

Thats why i couldnt find em in the gasket kit. Ok, so should I buy some Holden ones and put them on, or dont they really need em. No way would I assmeble our Chev ENGINES WITHOUT EM.

You can modify the guides and use 911 seals, they are more conventional looking, but generally people don't use the ones that come in some gasket kits, they are square section O rings that normally end up falling off and in the sump. But as Daimo says, who needs em....

Hi Trev,

they probably are, and are listed as a genuine part number in engine kits etc.. and workshop manuals...

so, they were used originally in the VW Factories...

Someone told Me once, that they were used on original VW engines so when the engine was started in the showroom there would be NO blue smoke....

cheers

LEE

PS: I don't know of anyone who installs them these days...

a freind of mine got a nice scare one day removing the idle jet on a bug with an aftermarket alternator like that

screwdriver hit the terminal and tried to weld to it
