Having a look at a bug tomorrow , the pic that was sent to me shows some rust bubbles just behind the rear side pop out window. Are there any "nasties" I should be looking for with this?? THe seats need recovering as well, any ideas on estimates for this? thanks for help
The trunk
This is the car, anything i should be looking for in a 74 bug.
This is the copy of the advert for the car in question.
"There is a very small amount of surface rust beginning to show in the way of blister bubbles on the right back panel just behind the side back window. A chap named Doug Hardy rebuilt the car
The driver's seat does have tears on the sitting part of it and there is wear on the top of the back seat as well. The chap I bought the car from had recovered the seats with vinyl slip overs that I think are actually intended for re-upholstering work. The original colour is tan, the slip overs black, but we took them off except for the base of the driver’s seat.
Head lining is in good condition – no tears and clean. The engine bay is in good condition. Everything is totally standard – not modified. The boot is in good condition too. There is no accident damage. Basically the car has been rebuilt, new brake rotors, new pads, new brake linings on rear, new brake cylinders, new wheel bearings on the front, new shock absorbers front and back, new windscreen and new rubbers on all fixed windows, rust removed – floor replaced, respray, new tail light lenses, bumper bars re-chromed, new cylinder heads set for unleaded petrol, recently had a full tune up. I have owned the vehicle for two years and the only reason I am selling it is to raise funds to make a trip overseas for family reasons. I don’t have a service history but I do have a list of all the parts etc that were involved in the rebuild. All tyres are in good condition and registered until mid October 2010. Fuel economy is good – on average about 7 or 8 litres per 100. A small box of spare parts comes with it including a sports steering wheel.
grab a fridge magnet and use that to check for bog
Thanks for the advice, had a look at the car on Saturday and took it for a spin. Not to bad, but as you have said, whats the paint hiding. ALso the bottom of the motor was covered in oil, didnt even have a radio 🙁 My gut feeling is to leave it alone.
the first thing to look very carefully at is that rust behind the vent, there is a great slab of foam there that collects water why it's there who knows other than that they are a good model, if ya like new ones lol ,try and feel inside where the rust is maybe you can feel if all is ok
good luck
