How do you deal with guys/people that reckon all vw's are sh%t and all they do is leak oil and go dak dak. I normally can take it as well as give it but this one guy just got my back up. He is right into drag racing (v8) and hot cars but couldn't see why anyone would do up a kombi let alone a aircooled vw. I tired to educated him and tell him to do some reading on drags from back in the day and just see how big vw's are/were a important ingredient in drag racing around the world. so he kept his crap up, and i forgave him for awhile because of his age (20 something) but enough was enough and he know has a sore chin and a freindship with his workshop floor. But get this he was fitting a exhaust to my kombi and all he could do was say how much vw's are a pile of sh%t etc etc..!
So i won't be going back there again and not only has he got a sore chin but a angry boss as well!

you could show him the vid of Rose blowing the v8 off at the drags in her little beetle but i don't think it will work as he is obviously a boofhead with a one track mind.
It wasn't just a bit of shit giving it was more serious and i did warn him! I walked away quite a few times and everytime i came back he was pretty much telling me how much of a fu%& wit i am for owning and customsing a vw.

Hey Rose, I've watched that vid a few times b4 but can't figure out why the bloke on the mike says that "the HR has a better reaction time by far" when the bug is long gone before the HR moves, as the rear wheels arn't visible in the vid it's hard to tell if he just sat there smoking it or if he just sat there.❓

Ha i like this, i had a little race the other night with a guy in a xr6 ute. At the lights pulld up reved nodded and he did the same, i smashed him off the line and looked in my mirror to pull over and seen the front of his car lift and a turbo start to spool and he flew past me, got to the next servo he pulled in and so did i and he came asked what was in it what im gunna do and that it was cool to have a go, Sounds like the opposite to the guy you met.
At the drags and on the street, I've had more thumbs up and thank you's for beating them than the bogans getting agro after a good thrashing, in beetles, kombis and even the old Porsche. I never miss a chance for a good race, even better to win 🙂. As Col said in one of the racing threads, that's the best part.

That's because I have a head start it works out on what you dial in by memory I think I dialed in a 10.5 and his would have dialed a 9 so he gets to wait.

The best way to shut people like him up are to say if your car is so fast and v8s so good you won't mind putting up your pink slip then cause obviously you will beat me.
Tell him well do it all legitamate go to the drag strip and get proper time cards and all.
They usually back out if not you may just win a new car assuming yours is fast.

They actually start (leave the line), at different times so that if they both run a perfect dial in (the time you think you will run) they will both hit the finish line at the same time.
So in effect the Beetle didn't "smoke" the HR at all, the HR is a quicker car.
Dial your own is where you try to estimate the time it takes to travel the quarter. Its so that everyone has a chance. Hell you could run a prius against a top fueller and beat him if you run the right time.
