hey new beetle peeps!

I'm thinking of getting my betr half a nice ride n to my surprise she likes the new vert beetle
so here I am asking for input, good bad indifferent about the water pumpers
I dig the verts lines and some look as if they come fully loaded with bling n stuff
but really are they good to drive long distances, gravel roads, highway speeds, fuel consumption, auto betr than manual, easy to carry shopping, passenger comfort etc etc etc
if you can let me know here I'd appreciate it yeah
not so much a brand newey but something low mile about 2 yr old is what I'm lookin at
many thanks for ur ideas
cheers pauly

We have driven ours 180,000 since new in 2004 and it has been a great car. We get about 10.5l/100km but we have the roof down 90% of the time. You do get better economy when the roof is up but that only happens when it is raining for us LOL.

The earlier cars came with more as standard with the leather seats and windblocker standard. We have a 6 disc CD standard as well but I am not sure if that is the same in the later cars.

There is plenty of room in the front but it can get tight in the back seats so you wouldn't want to do a long trip with people back there. The boot is a pretty good size but the opening to get in to it is not so you can get a fair bit of smaller things in there but nothing too big. When there has been something too big, we put it on the back seat with the roof down and no problem.

Ours is an auto but we tested the manual as well and much preferred the auto. It is very smooth to drive and didn't lose anything in performance to the manual. Bear in mind though that it only has 85kw so it will never be a sports car but it does drive extremely well. We also have a Mercedes SLK sports car but I still prefer to drive the beetle as it is so comfortable. It is a real head turner as well. People come up to talk to us all the time about it.

I think she will love it and you should go for it.

Just sold my custom new beetle and there great, but the interior quality is lacking a little and the dash is bloody looooooooooooooooooong. If wife it a very very compitent driver / parker, then go for it.

However I do recomment the turbo version, as the 2.0L lacks a liitle grunt unless modified.

Good luck 🙂

We have the turbo diesel and the wife LOVES it

Yes - parking is a bit funny
Yes - back seat is only a 2 seater
Yes - the boot is rubbish

Consider a second hand one as they loose there value very quickly
Have a look on Carpoint/sales

I bought mine from Qld - they seem to have been overstocked a couple of years ago

There are some 2009/2008 models with 0kms with heaps off the "new" price
Cost say $700 to ship from out of state.

if she doesnt mind manual only the TDi is an awsome "city" car
A TONNE of torque - just brilliant fun to drive

For what it is worth - i paid $27,000 drive away for a 2008 car (had it 12 months now) with 14kms on it
Bought in Brisbane - delivered and registered in NSW

Then picked up a set of near new mags off Costa for $500

If your Mrs can drive a manual i would recommend getting one in. We test drove both Auto's and Manuals while looking for Jess's NB.
They handle pretty dam good, far better then what i was expecting from them. But as VWFREAK mentioned. they seem a little under powered.
the TDI sedans go like stink though 😀

a lady friend of mine has one...so far she has had to replace: exhaust cat, power window mechanism, maf, O2 sensor, front wheel bearings, plastic dipstick tube fell to bits and also a plastic waterpipe same thing...😬

she loves the car but is disappointed😢

Yup, That about sums up the list of parts we have replaced too. They all seemed to happen at the 100,000ks mark. The Cat is just starting to fall apart now and the lower control arms needed to be replaced also.
and god help you when you have to change a head light bulb.😬 😂
