Hi Guys

I usually buy parts of George, but have been unhappy with the quality of some of the parts. They are really cheap so I know you get what you pay for.

Anyway, I got some parts and guess what, they are triple the price and exactly the same parts, crap tail light lenses that dont fit properly etc.

Well i have had my whinge.

I meant to say

I got some parts of a different supplier and they where triple the price and yet they are the same stuff.

i have brought a bit off the George lately and they have been unreal! I use to buy off a certain place in Brissy, but after some of the dealings over the phone i won't go back in a hurry.

Some of it would have been brazillian shit. Its not Georges fault he is just stocking in parts not manufacturing them. What parts were there. you can get brazilian or german in some cases but not all parts. From Dylan

I better explain a bit more.

I have bought heaps and heaps of stuff from George, Barrells and Pistons, cams, lifters, heads, interior, lights, indicators switches, guards, bonnet and basically everything on the car is new from George. Nearly everything has been good.

A couple of parts I got though are rubbish, headlight and tail lights for one.

The headlights have plastic nuts the the adjusters screw into, every time you try to adjust the headlights the screws just pop out of those plastic nuts. The tail light lenses are rubbish, plastic moulding ridges, lips etc etc, plus they dont even fit into the chrome seal, the seals on the tail light housing and the sals in the chrome are already cracked and ruined and they are only 6 months old.

So I thought I would try and get some stuff from a different supplier and maybe the quality would be better. The tail light lense turns up and exactly the same, plastic everywhere, chrome rim fits on but the lip is so big it sits 3 mm of the chrome rim, so out with the file and 1/2 hr filing it back. and melting bits with the soldering iron to make it fit.

My big issue was George was $15 for the tail light lense, this last one from another supplier was $35. So $20 extra yet it as well, was poor quality and didnt fit.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND, IM REALLY HAPPY WITH GEORGES STUFF. WELL 95% OF IT ANYWAY.

And that's the issue, a good supplier will explain the pro's and con's of different articles, and a bad one will just jack up the price for a big profit.

This can happen with any supplier [well most of them]
You can buy a part one month and its great...
buy another part a month or so later and its been made by a different factory... can be a different color etc..

You need to buy acrylic tail lamp lenses...
plastic is no good...
I bought Mexican made lenses and they didn't fit too well either, then the amber faded away to nothing on a car always in a garage.. about 18 months later one cracked...
the red was actually paint... at the back of the reflector...

I then bought top quality acrylic lenses from the USA...
fit etc excellent.. quality excellent too... [not expensive]
they may have been made in the USA...
many parts are...

it least at CIP1 and others in the USA give You the option of a Brazillian made part or a USA made part or a German made part etc...

Usually, Aussie parts sellers are selling German parts at sky high prices or Brasillian parts usually much cheaper..
or you don't get a choice...
as most Genuine VW German parts are EXPENSIVE...

then there are the EMPI made in china or taiwan parts that just don't fit????
Why go to the trouble of making parts that don't fit????

[not to be confused with the excellent EMPI parts made by Wolfsburg Motors in Victoria]

so, buying anything can be a BIG gamble..... !!!

PS: I don't know who selects the parts We get from overseas
via our local VW parts suppliers ..
it seems to Me its pot luck whether they are any good or not
and I'd like to know if they have any say in where the parts are from?? Brasil or Europe.. or do they buy by price?? Lee
