Pardon my ignorance all...but after cleaning up and painting a nice set of standard OEM steel tappet covers (kindly donated by Eraser) I have a small question.

On the upper ends both covers there is a metal tab with a hole in it...what is meant to connect to these?

The EMPI Taiwanese chrome ones I have pulled off it had no such tabs.

Oh..can I just say to everyone here....thank you each and everyone who has given me advise so far on various problems I have had.....your kind manner and thoughtful help is greatly appreciated by myself and my young daughter.

Be REALLY careful with rocker covers with tabs... like Daimo says they don't really do anything much, but them being there cost my sister an engine once. Long complicated story, but the basics where that my Dad didn't realise the tab had stopped the rocker cover from sealing properly after doing the tappets... she rushed him finishing the job, so a proper leak-check didn't happen etc. etc.

So yeah... not a fan of those tabs, so much so that in my family now any rocker cover with one of those tabs has it removed on-sight.
