Hey Guys

When did the flat screen finnish or the curved screen start or vice versa.

Went to order a screen today and they said my car was a curved screen but its a flat screen.

This is the body number

132753617 - So that makes it a 72 correct. So should it be a curved or flat screen.

A windscreen for a 72 is slightly curved even though it looks flat. If you put a straight edge over it you will see a slight curve An L bug is heavily curved and I think it was 67 that the screens that were actually flat finished.

all 68 on windscreens are the same except Lbugs which are built between 73 and 75

the body tag your looking at is pretty much meaningless, its the chassis number under the backseat and on the compliance tag that gives the car build date and indentity

Hi

they aren't really flat.... they only go in one way...
they are slightly convex.... [or concave inside view.. lol.]

the early windscreens were made from flat glass... up to 1968 in Australia... just Flat Glass...

from 1968> they do have a curve in them but most people still think they are flat....

so the windscreen people probably had the correct windscreen for Your car... after 1968>
and NOT a SUPER which has coil springs under the front mud guards --

That is the number from under the back seat stamped on to tunnely near the inspection plate. Also, I suppose the year can be different as someone could grab a body and stick on any floor pan, correct?

So what is an L Bug

So now that L Beetle definately has a curved screen, it curves around the sides,

if thats the number from under the rear seat double check it, cos that wont exist

its 1 number short and 3 being the 2nd digit means Lbug and they didnt start till feb 73 plus your bug is a swing axle 1300 so its not an S or L bug

if the number hasnt been messed with it'll be 112 x xxx xxx but then again it wouldnt be the first bug out there to have some sort of ID swap

this is usually called the curved windscreen beetle....
probably what the windscreen people meant..

the 1968> beetles [Non Supers] have a slightly convex Windscreen with a curve in it....
