Hi All,

Just thought i would post up a quick update before i go to bed...

I got the engine on my dub finally going today. 7years down the track of a complete rebuild of the dub and we are finally looking at some light at the end of the tunnel.

It is a 1600tp with single webber 38 idf carb and extrators, still have a bit of work to polish it off but at least now i have some motivation with it running!!!

I have a quick question for everyone. How many of you run the rear valance for the cooling tin?

When mine is fully secured, it pulls the tin around the pulley out and makes it scrape.

If I run the engine without it, will this affect the cooling abilities?

I will post up some movies of the old girl going.....

cheers,

Matt.

Hey, cool - congrats on the milestone !!!

👍

On the cooling tin, well yeah - you need to run every bit of cooling tin... it's all there for a purpose, and not having it will definitely affect cooling. Even the rubber seals around the edge of the bay can make a noticeable difference.

If that particular piece isn't there then air that's been heated up by the engine, oil cooler and headers can make it's way up into the engine bay and back through the fan intake again... so you'd be basically use already heated air to try and cool the engine.

So yeah - definitely run that bit of tin there. I've seen the scraping problem on engines before... usually just a case of modifying the tin that's under the pulley by trimming near the pulley rim slightly.
