hi guys

car wont start today, gutted. pretty sure the battery is ok. i'm getting around 4 or five quick tick sounds then nothing. i've read if i hear one tick and nothing it may be the compressor or starter motor, but i just wondered if anyone had a more specific answer, knowing i'm getting numerous tick sounds? thanks.

even if the battery is newish never assume its always good, i've seen batterys drop a cell with in a year, one was only 2 months old

have you got another you can try in it?
clicky is usually the solenoid pulling in but not enough power to wind the starter over

i had a problem with my starter about a year ago, just clicked and nothing else, every one told me you need a new starter, all except one guy who told me to unbolt the terminals on the starter, clean them with a wire brush bolt them back on and smear them with Vaseline to stop corrosion. i gave it a go and hay presto ,,,, it worked... never had a problem since.

hope this helps

I agree with manus. You may well just have a bad earth/dirty contacts.

There seem to be a lot of folks who leap to "you need a new etc, etc."

10/10! You're right, it was a flat battery after all. I recently installed a big-ish sound system connected directly to the battery and I think this is still taking some charge even when switched off. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for your advice, saved me a good deal of messing around.

if the battery is draining quickly and you have put an amp in then make sure you have a proper remote wire setup.
otherwise will depend on how the head unit is wired.
