Dumb question I know but when fitting a Compufire ignition does the distributor button stay on or is it discarded?
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!
Stays on.
May need shaving a mm or so off the bottom to allow for the thicknes of the magnet plate.

Thanks Mr. matberry, shaving it is probably what I need to do as the cap won't go on the way it is.

Nutha question, in the instructions it states a Bosch coil (which I have) is marked 1 and 15 on the terminals with 1 being - and 15 being +, it states to "connect the black wire to - ie "1" which is the terminal the original points wire was connected to", however my original points wire was connected to the 15, i'm sure of this as that is the only terminal with a spare connector on it, is this a misprint or was my original connected up arse about and does it make any difference, ie, is it important?

If it a "points replacement module" then the Black wire goes to coil -ve and red to +ve. Also best make sure that your ignition wire goes to +ve too. It may not matter with points but most likely will stuff the compufire.
Instructions can also be found on their website:

Here's a pic of mine fitted, with pink crimp-on connectors.

You mean the button under the cap itself...??
the carbon button...
You would have to have it to transfer the high tension voltage to the spark plug leads from the coil...
I have a pertronix ignitor to fit.... in My new SVDA dissy..
been a bit slack... but dissy is going fine as it is... lol
the Pertronix says to use a coil with at least 3 ohms resistance
You need to check Your coil... I have some here and some are 1.5 or 2 ohms.. which I cannot use...
cheers

Thanks fellas, looks like even the simplest jobs can confuse this old bloke, it appears that my coil may have been hooked up incorectly in the first place but as it's on a buggy it has all new (by the previous owner) wireing, I think I'll drop in to my friendly auto sparkie with some pics.

Coils will work wired the incorrect way...
but not as good as when wired correctly...

Hokay, the little wench hasn't been started for about 2 weeks, I have installed the Compufire and reconected everything (fuel line cables etc), squirted a bit of fuel down the throat of the carbie and she fires but wont keep going, no fuel in the fuel filter so I'm thinking the pump isnt working (unlikely as it's a reasonably new pump and it was running fine when I parked it in the garage last) or the fuel just hasn't got through yet so I keep cranking, still no fuel getting into the filter, (tank has fuel and it's mounted above the rear shocks so it dosn't have to drag the fuel far), filled the fuel line from the filter to the pump (about 300mm long) still no go. Serious help needed as there's a cruise on next weekend and the little wench is due for rego.

Your needle & Seat in the carby bowl may be stuck not allowing fuel into the bowl...
or the electromagnetic fuel cut off isn't connected..??

Electromagnetic cut off would be my thinking too.
Though with the no fuel in the filter... if you disconnect the inlet line from the pump... does fuel come through ???
Has the fuel pump been disconnected... are you sure the lines are connected round the right way ??? (there is at least one variation on the standard pump where the inlet and outlet pipes are switched around)
Also, you really want to rethink having a filter between the pump and the carb... they're a big fire risk.

Oh - one more - is there a fuel tap ??? Stumped me one time with my old 65... I'd completely forgotten about the reserve tap in the cab, and since it was in the 'off' position there was no fuel through to the pump.

Yep, as above, you need fuel, so proove good flow out of the pump while cranking. If none or very little, and it's getting to the pump, remove it and check the pushrod. It must have good stroke. There are 2 types of pump (aside from the diferent variations) the angled pump is designed for an alternator, so uses a different pushrod (shorter) the gen pump should mave 13mm protruding from the block at max up stroke.

YES
I didn't pick up on the filter being in the engine bay....
once You get the engine going and fuel flowing...
take it out... and OK on the fuel tap..
many people nowadays don't know that at 45 degrees the fuel tap is off.. and very difficult to switch ON if the handle is missing.. lol
UP is ON... 90 degrees is RESERVE...

Try what i told you give carby a drink get fuel hose etc and have the garden hose or
fire extinguisher handy😂🤪😂🤪

Guna be bloody hard to get the filter outa the engine bay with the fuel tank mounted over the rear LH side suspension, though I do know what you're all getting at and I am looking at a way to shield it, Mr. Mez, any half baked motor head would know not to use a garden hose on a fuel fire, water is a no no so I can only assume your trying to set me up, bad man. Now I'm off to try the trick you told me earlier today, thanks, I'll let you know how I go, though you'll brobably hear the chearing from your place. 😂

Cheern, well sorta, made sure the fuel bowl was full, diverted the fuel line into a container instead of the carbie, the little sweetie started and pured away like a satisfied lover, trouble is that there is no fuel being pumped outa the fuel line, either a stuffed fuel pump or a blocked line, off to check for a blockage b4 I go the new pump bit. Thank you Mr. Mezz, mate, buddy old pall. 👍

did you have a mear male moment & forgot that it actually needed fuel in the fuel tank to start with
😂😂 or was it something else funnier than that??? things for me to look forward to in my old age

Didn't think you birds got old so when will your "old age" be rose, started with a dead emty tank so put 2 litres in just to start things (you know, like foreplay), as the pick up is real close to the bottom of the tank that should have done the trick, seems I need 2.1 litres to get to the outlet. 😬😂🤓
