im thinking 75w90 hypoid oil ? GL5 rating?

I recommend synthetic too. if it can tame a borg warner t5 then it would work wonders on a vw box as they are superior to the t5 and few other similar boxes.

Yikes... albins gears and ZF diff...

I would recommend Castrol Syntrax 75/90 synthetic oil
that's what I have in My gearbox...

Only problem with synthetic oil is it leaks wherever it can...
or seeps... out anywhere it can....
thru threads of studs etc...
it doesn't actually drip... just wet with oil...

its also expensive... but albins and ZF diff....

cheers

You will have to get a oil that suits the clutch pack limited slip diff.
It will say on the box whether it is suitable.

I changed from a hypoid 75W90 to synthetic,
and noticed a huge improvement in shift quality,
but no leaks.
The synthetic I use is not suitable for the ZF "clutch pack" diffs,
but fine for "planetary" style diffs
