What is the difference between the 33 spline and the 37 spline Quaife LSD for an IRS box?

Which one would you recommend and why? What are the technical issues in fitting one or the other?

kombie=stronger, type 2 cv's=stronger, but you will need different stub axles..

What stub axles would you use and how available are they?

for the 37 spline yoy will need, 16-1800 kombie inner stubs, and 181 "i think country buggy" outers or aftermarket ones...this is what dave buttler told me....

but ring rod penrose about the lsd as he can get some for $1600 but not qaife ones...

You can use early Porsche 944, 181 (thing), aftermarket empi ones, or modify standard beetle ones............OR you can just run beetle CV's on the outer.

The 33 spline Quaifes are still very strong, Ive had mine now for 14yrs and I still give it heaps ! I'm also using standard beetle CV's.

I'd watch out for "cheap" diffs, because if it lets go at a big speed then GAME OVER 😂.

You will also need to modify or buy axles for the larger CV's, as Kombi CV's won't fit onto standard unmodified beetle axles

If you decide to go for the Kombi CVs,
leave tha axle alone and counter-bore the CV inner race, so the circlip can fit.
It is a simple lathe job, and is better than weakening the axle.

I ran 10.7's with stock axles and Kombi CVs,
so is you wanted to upgrade now, you wont have to worry in the future if you get more torque.

Hi

The one with the Kombi output shafts is much stronger than the Beetle ones, the output shafts necks down on the Beetle one.

I actually broke a Quaife Beetle output shaft in my yellow bug through my own stupidity.

There's no doubt the Quaife with the Kombi output shafts is a stronger item.......but the beetle one will still cop a lot of torture. 👍
