Oh wow, you guys get to choose your CTP insurer! In SA everyone is with Allianz via the motor reg and you have to pay it in your rego fees.

Never just renew it with the slip they send you. It is always higher. Even if you want to use the same company, go online and get a new quote. It will be cheeper than the renewal.
But $690 sounds a bit rude.
thanks for the info guys and lee my cars with shannons and has been for years cant work it out
thanks again

Think this would be classed as corruption over here in NSW. Someone must be getting a back hander.

I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

Then go into their office or one of their agencies and it will be cheaper again. 🤪
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

Just did exactly that - saved almost $200!
😎

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!
Thank god we don't have this greenslip business in W.A. just pay licence and third party, that' it! no inspections except on initial registration and that cost $85.00 for my daughters L bug, one-off payment (unless it fails) What does ins. have to do with "greenslip" ?
A Greenslip is insurance, its what covers the people in accidents
But some insurance companys will give you discount if you have a greenslip with them as well as comprehensive or knock-dent insurance
Aha, well we must be the same as S.A., there is no choice here, licence and third party are compulsory for all but don't know which lucky company gets the deal. Corruption here to methinks!
Not necessarily corruption, but all to do with the type of scheme. My guess is that in SA and WA, the scheme is government owned, and in SA what you would see as the 'insurer' i.e. Allianz, is in fact just an agent acting on behalf of the government. They wouldn't get any of the premium, but would be paid a claims administration fee by the government. In NSW, the premium received by the insurer becomes theirs, out of which they pay claims. However what they can charge and what claims they accept and how much they have to pay is VERY heavily regulated.
It is quite similar to workers' compensation. In NSW, Vic, Qld and SA there are government schemes, where any 'insurer' is just an agent paid a fee for service by the government. In the other states and territories it is the insurers own money that they collect and pay (or don't pay) claims from.
As far as I'm concerned, in NSW the maa site that pod linked to in the first reply is one of the few useful things the government has ever managed to do. It has saved me LOTS over the years.

Greenslips change they become a lot cheaper depending on where you live in NSW Double Bay a rich suburb and Broken Hill far west country NSW are very cheap. Compared to Bankstown , Liverpool & Campbelltown metro Sydney south western suburbs. some drivers with two homes one being a holiday home register at there holiday address.
A wave a day keeps the doctor away especially in a VW 😎:
hi all just an up date on my greenslip rang em up ask them whats the go with the hike up question here question there oh shit must have been a typo sorry sir that will be 690 less 210 almost happy days

NSW used to be like SA, WA. You didnt get to choose. For some reason I have a vague recollection about there being 2 insurers, dont know why and dont know what the factor was in which one you ended up with. They couldnt have been insurance offered up by the government with the companies acting as agents. The reason the govt invented the green slip scheme was the thinking that open competition would lead to cheaper prices. It worked for the first year or two.
Trouble is, all this talk of insurers woke up the bastard lawyers. They started advertising no win no pay services. So everyone who would normally have thought "bugger, me neck is sore, better take an aspirin" decided they would go for lawsuit. Fuckwit judges were giving out ridiculous amounts of money for temporary injuries. The greenslip industry almost went broke and fees went through the roof. Govt changed the laws to limit payouts somewhat, but the insurance fees never came down. The money grab then moved on to all forms of human activity. Kids playgrounds, footpaths. Cant even have a BBQ and sell a sausage sandwich without $10mill of liability insurance now.
7 million people in NSW, I'll guess 4 million cars all paying $400. Are there 1600 x $1 million payouts per year in NSW? Perhaps it would be better to have state sponsored insurance. But the NSW govt would only invest it in ridiculous transport schemes and other dumb projects they are never going to fulfill so I probably prefer it going to insurance companies. At least they have shareholders who are making some money, Pollies are only interested in building monuments to themselves.
well amazeer looks like yourve do and dusted this topic nicely said

crikey we live in a strange world, all I want to do is cruise in my beetle but it is so complicated to be legal! years ago I would get a brickies' labouring job on site by just asking the brickie, now, like cars, ya need every colour card you can imagine, an ABN, ins. before you can even think about it! forty years ago I drove a '59 beetle and loved it, now I drive a '60 beetle and still love it, the pollies can't take that from me............................yet😵💫
I'm insured through shannons and just got a green slip yesterday for $327

What can I say, I'm a grumpy old man before my time. Well maybe not so much ahead of time, 40 very soon.
hey rose im with shannons as well didnt think come monday ill be on the blower see what they can do but i reckon there be a diffrence between sydney and newcastle
Hi All,
I was shocked also when I got my CTP Greenslip as it was priced at $691, this is for my 1960 Beetle which only gets taken out of the garage 3x a month. I rang around and they all seem to be around the same price. Ok the reason for this as they stated on the phone is that the older cars (over 10years old) are at a higher risk of at fault in accidents and the Government has inforced it to be at this price. I do remember CTP's being around the $400 mark. Now I am insured with Shannons and they can do it for $621 as I have my house also insured through them so it come with a discount.
Just thought id have my 2 cents on this..
I just paid $640 with QBE. I got a quote of $690 with NRMA and I have my comprehensive policy with them. I also called GIO and they quoted $680. I asked why they were so expensive and she said they've changed the structure of CTP green slips and now if you're under 30, there's a discount. I'm 25 so I didn't apply =/
So the age has moved up to 30 for the cheaper greenslips now?? Everytime I get to the age where things should get cheaper they keep bumping up the age!!!
And why do I need a greenslip for every vehicle I own when I can only drive one at a time?????
Notch $354 last Nov and Commodores $332 in Jan and June this year with AAMI. Depends where you live and if the car has insurance of some type.
DH
32yo, Camperdown, Comprehensive with Shannons, got greenslip with NRMA for 57 beetle for $530. Guess drivers age really does play a big part in things.
No i'm not repainting it.

Tell me about it.
Even though I'm living in a quiet, well to do, snobby suburb, full comprehensive insurance, no claim bonus and it's in a garage, I still pay that much =/
My comprehensive premium is only $350
😂
