For those of us that are not able to get to Valla, I think it is going to be a bit quiet on this site for the next few days.

Those that are going to Valla, have a great time and bring back plenty of photos and video.

Cheers, Kev.
I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

You make a very good point, But the family is home and with a 6 year old that dotes on her Dad there is no chance. I'm still finding it very hard to get motivated to do anything at the moment :-(

I've got a 12yo daughter who has spent more time helping me with my volksies than my 3 older sons have and ones a mechanic. If i'm lucky one might be around to help remove or replace an engine.

That's right Kev, 6 is a perfect age to start learning😉 Give her little jobs to do, and praise her for doing well. You will both benefit from the experience. I know.👍

Cheers, Greg
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

I agree with you Kev, I'm staying home too as I think Lily (she's 9) would be bored in Valla after half a day. Plus there's lots of jobs to do at home - I've got to get the next club magazine finished and she can help me with that.

I'm not worried about missing Valla, I've been to lots of them over the years. There's plenty of other events coming up anyway - I'm looking forward to Shannons' Classic Day at Eastern Creek on Sunday 22nd Aug:

Hey Kev,
Bring the toolbox inside, empty it out and start sorting out the tools, putting them back in some sort of order with the apprentice.
It's fun. There's screw drivers, spanners, all different sizes, metric/imperial etc. It's like a game of 'SNAP' except close enough is good enough.
Think about the future! How good is it when you're under the car and your daughter knows what a 17mm open end ring spanner is,
where it is and grabs it for you! And they send kids to school when they're that age. Good time to start learnin.
Dave

My 11 year old grand daughter has been to the last 5 or 6 Vallas, and has been very much looking foreward to going with us. Her 2.5 year old brother will also be attending his 2nd Valla.
My daughters both helped me work on my car when they were young - they rather enjoyed it then, and really appreciate it now when they need to do small things on their cars themselves.
When my eldest daughter was an apprentice at tech doing carpentry and joinery (she was the only girl for some reason), she broke an accelorator cable in her 74L bug as she was leaving the TAFE carpark at lunch time. She rang me and said the end had broken off at the carby, and asked for me to bring a spare cable. I told her if she got some pliers and a bit of wire, she could just wire it up as a temporary fix. She borrowed some from the TAFE as the rest of the boys were comming out, and while they were offering to ring the NRMA or a mechanic, she wired it up in a minute or so and was back on the road, much to their great surprise - she earnt even more respect from them that day. Her grounding in cars as a kid let her know what things were, where they were, and how they worked.

Well so far, the grandkids are having a great day here at Valla - of course, so am I. It would have to be one of the largest Vallas as far as number of cars go, and the swap meet is much bigger than usual.

From the reports I have been getting daily Valla this year is the biggest numbers wise ever. Street parade was good yesterday apart from the shower of rain as everyone was leaving. Swap meets is bigger than normal with plenty of crap up for grabs adn the racing on thursday and friday was entertaining!!

I had not been to Valla Park since 1994.
I caught a couple of hours of racing in 2008, but this year decided to stay for a few Days.
Thursday and Friday's racing were awesome, particularly from all the hillclimb guys and gals who run under 2 litre engines.
The noise is still in my head.
Hats off to the crew from Ben Durrie's camp who were light years ahead of any other beetles on the day.
Christine's driving was the best I have ever seen from a woman.👍...and AS GOOD OR BETTER than the fellows!

While the camp ground and cabins have changed a little since 1994, the atmosphere was still the same as I remember.
The Cruise into town was great fun, and then back at the home base,
the swap meet and dealer displays were plentiful, with bargains for all.

It was nice to catch up with Luke and Daimo, and all those faces that I had not seen in a while.
Look forward to 2012!!
