Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there anything special I need to do to bring over my 1972 Beetle ?, I need to be looking into this as I will be coming over at the end of 2011, and would like to get organised.

Cheers

Make sure it is spotlessly clean,
inside,
outside,
upside down.
Otherwise you will have to pay them to do a 'clean' on it, and it is very expensive.

Flick Rod Penrose a PM on here,
and he will have a good idea of the details,
since he has brought in a few cars,
and knows the drill.

Dangerous has given you the sound advice, its all about being spotless, especially under each guard as they frown upon mud & dirt as it carries seedlings and insects etc, they look for leaves & debris inside air vents and also wasp cocoons cheers Frank

You might need to check with the new import regulations as well. Anything that is lowered or with non-standard rims will not pass. Many hot rods currently being imported are being sent back at the owners cost. Anything looking remotely Kustom will also not pass, unless you can prove that the modification were done before 1989 (pictures etc). Most of this is for stuff coming in from the US, but you will find it applies not matter which country the car is coming from.

I 2nd the comment about making it spotless. Our guys are serious about it. They actually sprayed (with a hose) inside and outside of a ghia that I brought in from the USA to get rid of anything before it left the docks. Mine was a basket case in need of a full resto so it didn't matter but if it is in good nick, I would hate to have that happen to it.

There are also application forms you will need from the department of transport to get approval before it comes in. This is where you can start looking http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_vehicles/index.aspx

Cheers

Bugger that could be a big problem then ! 🥲 as mine has been lowered etc. just like most beetles, uprated engine and the door handles have been removed by the previous owner.
