I have a carpet cover for the dashboard of an L bug. It's black and it's in good condition.
I'll swap it for a hamburger at Alfred's Kitchen in Guildford, at the monthly meeting of the Perth VW community, on the first Wednesday of the month, after 7.30 p.m.
Why do we congregate at Alfred's Kitchen, in Guildford, W.A. in the open, bedside the railway line, in all weathers?
I'm not sure. It just seems to have happened that way. As I understand, it a group from either The Kombi Konnection and/or NoH2O started it and to give people public liability insurance, the VW Club took it on as an official club event. Since then, like Toppsie it has "Just grewed."
It may be because they make the best pea soup and hamburgers in Perth.
Alfred's is one of the last of the old style 'burger bars left in Perth and they still make a 'burger in the old way; big, juicy and delicious.
I believe that one of the reasons why it is still there is that they have a 99 year lease, starting in about 1948, on the land from the Railways Department, so future generations will be able to buy a proper hamburger, in the proper way, that is standing around in the open, beside a fire in a pit and talking, until about 2047.
As a result any moves by the local council to "clean up the area and to get rid of the riffraff that congregate there every night", is doomed to failure. Way to go.
Any VW afficionado in Perth is cordially invited to be at Alfred's Kitchen on the corner of James Street and Meadow Street (West Swan Road), beside the railway line, at 7.30 p.m. on the first Wednesday night of every month.
All comers will be very welcome.
