Worked on it last night and put the original pulley back in so we'll se what happens. Frosty, funny you should mention an alloy pulley, that's what I've just taken out and replaced with the original, as well as straightening a bent hose to the breather which was obviously the blockage! When I looked at the grooves on the alloy pulley, they were less than half as deep as the original, hence the move back to original.
I've also been looking on the Chirco.com website and they have a number of 'sand seal' pulleys, which, given the $ at the moment, I might order. My question to this is, can I fit a sand seal pulley without splitting the case? Does the seal just push in? Anybody know?
Anyway, back to the shed, there's a lot of exhaust and turbo plumbing to go back on before I can see if the unblocked breather and original pulley has solved the problem...!
Thanks for all your help
Marc.
originally,
engine case had to be machined for the so called sand seals
but I have seen them now that just push in...
inside the engine is an oil slinger which throws the oil back into the crankcase...
so, the grooves don't really need to be there apart from oily fumes or too much oil in the engine...
two oil slingers would have been better...lol
I've always thought of using a thick o ring there...
I have read that the problem is that the alloy pulley is smaller where it goes into the engine...
compared to a genuine pulley...
i don't think the grooves make much difference..
