Hi,

Ive got a VDO Cockpit Vision speedometer and a VDO 412.009 speed sensor. I'm trying to make the two talk to each other but having no luck!

As these VDO speedos seem to be used quite often in VW's and the sensors seem to be the part of choice for Subaru conversions, I figure someone on here must know how to connect them.

The sensor has a Blue/Red Trace wire, a Black wire and a Brown wire.

If I connect black to 12v (or terminal 2 on the guage) Blue/Red to earth (bridged of terminal 3) I can see a 4v-0-4v signal on the brown wire with a multimeter. Yet if I connect terminals 6 and 8 to the brown wire the speedo sits there stupid.

Any other combination of connections produces no signal out of the speed sensor at all.

Some advice would be appreciated. 🙂

Thanks,

don't blindly connect wires. you could easy cook the sensor. read the instructions that came with it.

Thanks. 🙂

It came from eBay without instructions. The same part without the adaptor bits. It's used in some crap Chevy van as an OEM part. The seller had dozens of them, but apparently no idea how they should be wired. 🤪

Is it the Hall effect sensor that needs to be grafted into the speedo drive cable? If so I think I have a manual around somewhere in the garage. I'll try and find it tomorrow for ya.

OK it got the better of me, I ventured out to the garage and found the speed sensor and the manual says:

Blue - v-signal
Brown - -31 ground
Black - +15

Hope that makes sense. If you need it I can probably scan the manual for you if you let me know your e-mail
