How do most vw gauges come out?
ive got a speedo inside a fiberglass dash.. whats the trick to getting these out?

Hi Jigga, you need to clarify what type of car/ trike/ buggy you actually have, if you have access to the back side of this fibreglass dash, just study it and you will work it out, but if its a standard vw speedo, carefully pull each globe connector plug out of its socket ( they are just a press fit) disconnect the earth wire and unscrew the speedo cable coupling, then loosen both fasteners on each side of the speedo housing and rotate the housing until it releases from the dash. If youy are unsure of which globe goes into which socket, just draw a diagram before removing. hope this is of some help cheers Frank

ok.. so the thing that im stuck on is... there is a black plastic ring that goes around the back of the gauge.. there is a steel "flap" that seems to prevent the ring from coming back.. Im trying to move the steel flap to be able to push the black ring back.. but i cant seem to be able to slide the black plastic ring back... any tips.
