hi, just need some advice. My stock 1300 bug is giving me some grief. It will kick over on full gas, splutter a bit and start to rev, then continue to struggle and then stall. I have drained the carby through the 13mm bolt at the bottom, though it looked quite clean.
Any ideas? Fuel filter looks fine, its a new fuel pump, new lines and tank. Could it be a crappy spark or just the carby needing an overhaul? I've got my head around certain areas of the bug, but i really could use a crash course on engine trouble shooting. Thanks Ian for the carby suggestion.
G-day mate.
It could be spark, have the plugs been replaced?
Also could be sucking in air,but sounds more like fuel or spark problem to me.
Good Luck

hi Jason, no, the plugs are still the old ones that came with the car - god knows how old they are. I'll pull one tomorrow and get some new ones. I've got some new cables as well that I might try installing.
Hi Greedy, I've visually inspected the in line filter and it seems fine. I'll look into the fuel pump filter tomorrow as well - thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the advice - I posted this from the doctor's waiting room via my phone. 3 Hour wait for a 10 minute consult. 3 hours. So we waited 20 minutes for every minute and 20 seconds we saw him. 3 Hours. 10 minute visit. Good results, so mustn't complain. 3 hours.
Take the fuel line of the cardy and see if the fuel runs out well by holding the fuel line down.
Good luck

I found some fine splits in the fuel line just before the pump, so i cut that section out and refit it. I then checked the plugs which were very sooty, so i cleaned em all. I then thought about the dizzy cap and remembered i had a spare, one of the flashy empi see thru ones that are meant to be crap, but it chucked it on anyway for a test. Fired it up and it runs sweet.
Then bought some new ngk plugs and took it for a drive. What an improvement! Like a different car!
It could be the rotor cap, but t is running sweet now, so im happy again. Thanks for the advice though.
