I am making a 1/16th scale model of a wartime Beetle (Typ 82 E) to go with my Schwim and Kublewagon,
hoping someone out there may please be able to put me onto a good website or know of some good pic's?
Really like to find some pics of camo scemes and find out if wartime beetles had semiphores or guard
mounted indicators or no indicators at all?
Thanks.
Far as I know the camo scheme varied unit by unit just like with the Kubel's.
IMHO they look better in the standard "panzer grau" and "converted" to be a typ 87, but maybe that's just me !!!

Is that the Tamiya kit Luftmeister ?
I have a kit (unbuilt) of a 1944 german reich traffic admin type 82e that is dark yellow.
Here's my 1/16th Tamiya Kublewagon and Edward Schwimwagon, the Beetle is an old Revell kit in
the same scale. She will be RC as I am adapting the kit to fit on the Tamiya Kublewagon chassis.
Will put some pic's up of the Beetle when I get a bit more done on her.
I am not real sure of the Kommandeurwagen on the link Volkyland. It has the wrong front bonnet and handle, rear bonnet and handle, hinges, tailights, speedo and dash pod and other stuff. The motor in the picture is not a wartime 25hp with the rear mounted coil and open fan blades which is stated to be 1131cc. It should have a HAF carby as well.
The genuine vehicle Type 92 or Type 82E Kommandeurwagen was composed of a Type 82 four wheel drive Kubelwagen chassis and running gear with a Type 60 (KDF) Beetle body bolted on. Other equipment featured on the Type 92 (Type 82E) included black out lights, rifle holder, electric and crank operated starting, offset axles with transfer cases that help to give the vehicle a ground clearance of 290mm. It also had 1.3mm thick steel body panels. Most of the vehicles were painted Wehrmacht Grey. Some had large rollers fitted into the front apron to help the vehicle climb up steep embankments.
Several publications have suggested only 660 (approx) of these vehicles were made.

Yeah as Bill says that link isn't a real Kommandeurwagen... that's why I said "converted".
😉
Really just meant it to explain the look I was meaning.
Cool models - especially like the scheme on the kubel. Keen to see some of the 82E when you've done it too...

Go to Google and click on the 'Image' tab in the top left. Then search for 'Type 82E'. Lots of photos and articles come up - take your pick.
I don't think I've ever seen a period colour photo of a genuine Kommandeurwagen, but as Bill says most of them were grey.
I've never made of model of one of them - I'm more into 1/32 scale fighter planes.
Thanks everyone great stuff, sorry to disappoint she won't be grey too boring,
I make model tanks as well and it is fairly well know that many units applied
camo in the field so mine will be one of those. Hope to get some paint on and
pics up soon.

Hi
Schimmwagen and kubelwagen
Great models...
the covers over the headlamps were made from cloth...
they didn't have any indicators [as far as I know] as they had the special convoy lamp on the front guard and special rectangular convoy rear lights on the rear guards that You could flip over so they would work as normal tail lamps...
not sure on the pope's nose lamp over the licence plate..??
I believe they would be painted sand for the desert ??or grey
or maybe camo ?? guessing here..
and that's not a German shepherd NAZI [nasty] Dog....
more like friendly Aussie dog... 😂😂😂
the German standing up looked familiar 🤪
good work

Here is a few pics of my 1/16th wartime Beetle, modifying a Revell 51/52 model Beetle to fit onto
a Tamiya Kublewagon chassis, she will be RC if all goes to plan.
If I set up the airbrush I try and get a bit done, 1/16th, 1/25th and 1/35th Beetles
Wow that's some crafty stuff!! Do you just do the models or whole scenes etc? I have far to many hobbies to take this up to but that is some great stuff!
AJ
Got some camo on found a nice scheme on the net, couldn't resist!
Also converting a 1/25th diecast Beetle to wartime colours.
This was a lot harder to do than it looks!
Had to scratch build horns on bumper, horn and guard mounted convoy light.
And don't forget the Kublewagon.
I know the purists may not like the scemes, be keen to hear your thoughts?
Looking awesome! Love the cammo especially the smaller beetle!!
always wondered what the things on the front gaurds were. Now I know
Infared lighting. kool😊
Lookin good DubbyFan... I like !!!
👍 👍 👍
Grey57... the comment on that site about the infrared headlight is incorrect. Those things are what's called a Notek Light... it's really just a
conventional light (aka white light) with a very restrictive shield over it to limit the beam and spill to reduce chances of being spotted by aircraft. I've seen red filters fitted on Notek's also... just like putting a red filter on a torch... but generally not done on a moving vehicle (white at the front, red at the back to show direction ya see).
Infrared AFAIK never used for headlights on vehicles... normal lights are important to all the friendly troopie's etc. there just waiting to be run over.
Even with Night Vision available now most modern military vehicles are fitted with Notek or something very similar.

I am quite certain that the paint jobs were done with a mop and bucket to suit the ever changing conditions, here's one that i prepared earlier
