Don't think this has been posted yet... the new 21st Beetle teaser ad has been released.

Not bad, but how much better would it have been to Spiderbait's cover ???

👍

Looking forward to seeing this thing hit the road! Depending on what she drives like and the pricing i may end up picking something like that over an XR6 Turbo. Are they using the same powerplants as the New (Old) Beetle? 2LTurbo, yes please 😂

No it won't have the same engines as the current New Beetle (which is based on the Golf Mk4). Those old 1.6 petrol and 2-litre diesels are ancient and not used in any other current VW model.

The new New Beetle is based on the Golf Mk6 so it will have access to the same modern engine choices - 77TSI (1.2 turbo); 90TSI (1.4 turbo) or 118 TSI (1.4 twincharger); and for diesels, 77TDI (1.6 turbo) or 103TDI (2.0 turbo). Models for the US market may get the 155 kW 2.0-litre GTI engine, but for Australia it's most unlikely.

The new New Beetle will also use the current Golf's 6-speed manuals or 7-speed DSGs.

In Australia the New Beetle has only ever been a 'niche' model. They sell a few hundred each year here, while the Golf now sells over 15,000. Even the Tiguan SUV sells over 6,000 a year now.

What's an XR6 Turbo? I can't find any mention of that model in any of my VW brochures.

It's a cruelty inflicted on the average Aussie battler/hero by a company named Ford.

That is unless you're a bogan that's also in touch with your inner ricer... in that case it's a ute that you can make sneeze "tsssh" when you change gears.
