Can it be done?
We have a good exchange rate with them at the moment.
Shipping would be a bastard, sure, but they are still factory fresh.
I'm sure that the RTA would also want their pound of flesh, but has anyone ever given it a go?
Cheers
Contact your local RTA. You will find that it will have to be converted to RHD, and comply with current ADR's. As a low volume import, it would be very uneconomical to do so.
But it can be done.
what are the type 2s sold in the UK??? Brasillian??
usually made up as campervans...
LH or RH drive??
are they easier to register in the UK???
no design laws over there???

I dont believe they will pass our registration standards
Futue te ipsum!!!
it would fall in to the icv category and only cost you a small fortune and it still wouldnt meet the current adrs.
not really worth it, i know of two brazilian twin cab bodies in sydney and they are still in the same place 10 years later.

not that we would ever condone it, but could they be a rebirthing option? RTA would never know about it being Brazilian and so long as you completely cut up the Aussie when done, could it ever be traced back if you didnt tell anyone?
reckon plenty do that with mexi beetles in the states

The original registration is done on the chassis number. As long as the chassis number is original, it does not matter how much of the original van is replaced.
Keep within these parameters and you can register your vehicle.
Yes,
If no one knew....
but the doors are a give away...
with the groove near the bottom of the doors...
But who would really know??
engine & chassis number on the rego....
LEE
PS: A really BIG difference between a Bay Window Kombi and a late model vehicle.... rego wise... YIKES...
it would have to be registered as a 30 year old Kombi...

Yeah Helbus. So if I restore my 1974 bus by replacing everything 3 inches out from the engine bay seal its gotta be good huh.
Wonder what the engine bay of the brazilbus looks like. I assume its pretty vacant being a watercooled model.
What about the v6/v8/subi/porsche engined buses? Surely some of these have the need to cut away the engine bay where the chassis number sits. What do they do they do in these circumstances? The Mexibug option would be an easy (and legal) pan swap wouldnt it?
Yeah its absoloutely illegal but there is no way the average mechanic or rta is going to ever suspect a thing.
The sliding door on the opposite side, and the different shaped roof would give it away the most
Hmm yeah. The roof would be fine maybe not the door.
