Hi there,

What? Backups and security patches
When? Midnight Saturday 16 June 2012
How long? About an hour

More details:

There's a pretty important security update to apply to the server. Honestly, it's not that critical to us as I have the database server listening locally, so it's unexploitable remotely, and if you've broken into the machine, I have bigger problems than a trivially exploitable MySQL issue. However, I like to keep on top of these things.

Patches for tonight:

[*]MySQL Server and client - http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-1467-1/
[*]APT - http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-1477-1/

As it changes our database server and client libraries, a backup will occur just before the patch.

thanks,
Andrew

It's about to start. Will take around an hour all up. Service will resume automatically, and be slow for about another 10-20 minutes after you can get back on here (other backups need to be taken, too!).

All done. Just updating the backend software. This should be done in a few minutes.

Andrew
