I am in the process of trying to pull the gearbox out of our 64 DC splitty ute apart to fix 4th and reverse gear. We can not get one of the brake drums off. Do I need to take the brake drums off or can i remove the axles some other way. The mechanic is having a hard time and well I need this box done ASAP.
any help would be greatly appreciated
is he using a drum puller ? or is the nut seized ? heat heat heat and lots of wd -40 or similar and leave over night or cut drum apart
After it's had a good soak some good whacks with the hammer!

make sure the pads are backed off........
then normall heat and a hammer......
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
Do not hit anything with a hammer, just ends up costing more money to fix the damage, back the shoes off, load the drum up with a puller and heat the center of the drum with the oxy.
Yes brakes have been backed right of and he has heated but still no go. He will attempt it again tomorrow
vw's love hammers , dont be a girl haha , i use a leather hammer which doesnt do the damage a metal one does so settle down
