2 cars owned by my sister in law and her husband, rego in NSW, only just gone through blue slip inspection a matter of a couple of weeks before they decided to relocate back to Qld.
I had been under the impression that the NSW system was pretty strict. But when both cars needed windscreens, one needed all 4 CV boots and joints replaced, steering boots replaced, rear brakes were leaking fluid and the muffler and rear part of the exhaust was so rotten it required replacement too, my question is how could these have just passed a blue slip?
Is the Qld safety certificate system a lot stricter? We have no annual inspection process here, the cars were both late 90's small Fords.
Is the NSW blue slip just a walk in sign off and go on your merry way? Or did they just fluke a dodgy garage 2 years running? I know a lot of border dwellers or relocators leave cars registered in Qld to avoid the change over. Interested to hear other opinions particularly from south of the border.
I believe the Queensland RTA are very strict When cars are inspected
and most NSW Mechanics are fairly strict also... but there are some who let unsafe cars on the road...
All the ones I have come across are very strict as they can lose their licence [to pass cars for rego] ... and maybe their jobs..
so they do examine Your car... it can take from 15 minutes to an Hour...
and We have the mandatory Brake Test on every car over 5 years old..
and the car is taken for a drive...
This is for the yearly NSW REGO examination... PINK SLIP
for a BLUE slip the vehicle is usually examined much more... usually the vehicle is on a hoist and inspected for any wear or rust etc.. especially the steering etc... as the vehicle has been unregistered or registered interstate and not been examined...
Every fault is usually noted... to be Fixed...
I also understand that many people trust the Mechanic to inspect the car and tell them if anything Needs to be Fixed as its for their safety..
and then there are the mechanics who find something on every car they inspect.. I was rather shocked when I took My Wife's Suzuki swift for its first inspection and was told a lecence plate lamp wasn't working.. they fixed it by tapping it... lol..
