If you put your e-mail address in your user details expect mail . At least it was from an associated company that is trying to promote the scene and that can only be good for all of us, the more people that use companies that are run by enthusisats the better it is for the rest of us.

I was going to import a set of deluxe trim from Creative Engineering in England, the cost of the trim was $700, the postage was going to cost $700 and then there was import duty on top.
Classic VW (pacific) are bringing in the same stuff for $700, that saves me $700 plus the import duties, Am I going to stop using this company because they sent me an e-mail. NO because believe it or not I like saving money.

And yes I have seen Classic VW (Pacific)s price list and no one else in Australia can supply stuff as cheap as them.
I would like to think that as they are saving me a LOT of money , that I can help promote their business.
And again yes I do want them to succeed as the more people that buy stuff from them the longer this company will trade, that means a supply of cheap parts for my other project.????

This is not meant as an advertisement but I think that other companies have been ripping us off for too long.

Cheers
Dave

Yes but commercial spam is ILLEGAL. We did not overtly opt in for commercial mail.

If someone asks for info fair enough - well and good and should be encouraged.

Seriously fellas, this is one E-mail, an intro letter. If you dont want it delete it and do not reply, simple as that, you won't get another one.
Just checked my daughters E-mail address and its got 285 E-mails now thats the stage when you have something to gripe about.
Again I apologise if its caused offence, but please take it in the context that it was meant.
Silver, we are planning on sponsoring this site in the near future.
Maybe you would like to send out E-mails to all members regarding the proposed Aussieveedubbers show and shine, but clearly mark it "non-spam".
Oh yes we are still looking for sponsors of the trophies.

If another ausdubber sends me an email through that source is it spam?
if it isn't commercial in nature it isn't technically...

[qote]
so if an ausdubber who is setting himself up as a trader sends me an email informing me of his new venture I don't consider it spam.

Yes. This is the legal definition of spam. For Australian traders there are strong legal ramifications for sending out unsollicited email. He could have quite easily used a posted thread - which would have been accepted by most as fair. Not all businesses are in a position to sponsor the forum so I'm sure the occassional message here wouldn't be too badly accepted.

What is at issue here is using addresses here as a source of marketing information and sending unsollicited electronic messages. This is not only unethical but ILLEGAL in Australia.

Comparing the actions of an Australian trader to the constant and spamming of o/s shonks is pittiful and useless as there are no LAWS specifically banning the practice. For Australian traders there is!

If it wasn't a VW shop I would have reported it.

The Spam Act covers electronic messages that are sent using applications such as:
* email
* SMS
*MMS
*Instant messaging

We have seen two sorts... email and u2u (instant messaging).

A business found to be in breach of the Spam Act can be fined up to $220,000 for a single day of spam activity. That was a pretty big risk you took there!

Commercial messages must only be sent when you have consent. This may be express consent from the person you wish to contact – a direct indication that it is ok to send them the message – that is to OPT IN.

Here is a copy of the Act from the Attorney-General's Department
http://scaleplus.law.gov.au/html/pasteact/3/3628/top.htm

From how long it took you to get the hint about following the rules for the buying, Selling and Swapping Forum I hope you don't continue to make the same mistake.

After speaking to our legal advisors regarding this episode it has even put the administrators of this forum again in a precarious position.

Bloody pollies bullshit... I love the part in the act which specifically excludes election material from the legislation!

People should also be aware that little Johnny's son is also on staff for Dubya's re-electoral committee.
