help needed regestration woes

guys finally passed roadworthy in victoria for my 60 ghia ,i went to vic roads yesterday to book in for regestration when i was asked for the previous regestration of the vehicle .now the problem with that is the guy i purchased it from purchased it in the early 80's as a project with no rego the guy he got it off also had it as a project so she has been off the road probably since the late 70's .with no rego number i got no reg ,i think the car may have come from WA as i found WA newspapers stuffed in the heater channels has anyone got a solution for me .or perhaps someone has some old plates off a 59/60/61 beetle from tas or wa or vic that havent been on th road for years that i could use to get around the problem the car is a genuine RHD Aust delivered ghia its not stolen just fell out of the loop for 30+ years many thanks chris 0413840010
